This experiment is shocking millions, after seeing this you'll never want to visit McDonalds again!
It's no secret that junk food is bad for us. I think it's safe to say that most of the world knows this by now.
That still hasn't stopped many of us from indulging in greasy unhealthy food from time to time. Some people still eat fast food regularly and even every day.
Although it's not the end of the world to have the occasional burger or pizza, perhaps you might want to rethink having one at McDonalds — ever again.
The researchers used a sample of pure hydrochloric acid. This is something we all have in our stomachs but in a more diluted form. It helps us break down the food we eat.
They placed a regular cheeseburger from McDonalds into the sample. They then left the burger in the acid for three and a half hours. When they came back to see the results — they were shocked.
So far, over 17 million people have seen this clip, and I totally understand why it's spreading like a wildfire on the internet.
Hydrochloric acid is very harsh and breaks down food while killing bacteria that could be dangerous to us. If it wasn’t for the protective lining we have in our stomach, the acid would attack our own body internally.
The researchers were surprised to see that the burger hadn’t dissolved and instead had turned into a big, slimy, black lump. Pretty gross if you ask me.
A fruit salad normally dissolves in roughly 30 minutes. What makes the cheeseburger harder to break down are the large amounts of 'trans fats' or artificial fats as they are also called, that are in the burger.
Having a cheeseburger from time to time is not life-threatening, especially if you make one yourself using more natural ingredients and less grease. But after watching this clip, you might rethink having one in fast-food joints like McDonalds.
